Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan Releases Statement on Wife’s Harassment Allegations Against Senate President

High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom, has issued a statement addressing the ongoing dispute between his wife, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.

In the statement, released on March 1, 2025, Chief Uduaghan expressed concerns over what he described as persistent harassment endured by his wife. Initially refraining from public commentary, he said he was compelled to speak out due to recent developments that were diverting attention from the serious allegations at hand.

The Warri chieftain emphasized that his wife, a duly elected senator, has earned the trust and respect of her constituents and remains committed to delivering quality representation. He described her as a devoted wife and a truthful individual, even in adversity.

Chief Uduaghan disclosed that his wife had confided in him about her interactions with the Senate President, whom he had previously considered a family friend. In response, he approached the matter with “utmost maturity and responsibility,” personally engaging Akpabio to urge him to respect his wife and their longstanding friendship.

Despite an initial understanding to resolve the issue amicably, the statement revealed that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan continues to express concerns about the treatment she has received from Akpabio.

Reaffirming his unwavering support for his wife, Chief Uduaghan called on the Senate and the Senate President to accord her the dignity and respect she deserves while legal and institutional authorities address the matter.

His statement has since sparked public reactions, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations. As the situation unfolds, attention remains on the Senate and relevant authorities to determine the next course of action.

PUSHING DOMESTIC WORKERS RIGHTS: CEE-HOPE ENGAGES MEDIA ACTORS

A cross-section of key stakeholders on labour and human rights recently gathered in Lagos to push forward the campaign for the recognition and protection of Nigeria’s domestic workers. The meeting was organised by the Centre for Children’s Health Education, Orientation and Protection (CEE-HOPE) as part of its long-term advocacy for the rights, welfare, and unionisation of domestic workers. Many domestic workers suffer exploitation, low pay, lack of social protection, and abuse. To address these gaps, the meeting brought together representatives from government ministries, labour unions, civil society, and the media to strategise on concrete actions to improve their working conditions. The one-day event, held at CEE-HOPE’s House, Agege, Lagos, attracted journalists from various media establishments — both electr...
